Christianity And Controversy – What’s The Deal?
Have you noticed all the controversy surrounding Christians and their faith – especially lately? Frankly, I feel it can be exhausting. People everywhere are debating over right and wrong and standing for what they believe is right… Noble, I guess.
I too believe in standing for what you believe in. If you didn’t you wouldn’t really stand for anything at all. However, I have to admit I think sometimes the point is being missed. The point to WHY Jesus actually came. The point that there is ONE thing that separates Christianity from every other religious belief in the world – GRACE.
Other religions and beliefs demand something of the people. They demand behaviors and actions from you in order for you to be acceptable. Jesus gave to us. He came in the form of a man and came to this earth to give forgiveness and strength and to place the desire in our hearts to be hope and encouragement to a hurting world. Our God didn’t demand something of us, He came and offered something to us.
This is what separates us. Love. Grace. Compassion. Forgiveness. Acceptance.
I’m not implying that there is no right or wrong – of coarse there is. But that’s not the only point we are supposed to stand for. When Jesus walked the earth there was plenty of controversy – mostly because he loved the sinners -tax collectors, prostitutes you know the people who were doing something wrong. I find it interesting though that Jesus never started a boycott or a riot against these “sinners” the people He spoke out about the most were the “Religious” leaders that were oppressing the people with their laws.
By all means STAND for what you believe in, we all need to do this. What I am suggesting is that maybe we need to look at HOW we are standing for what we believe in and what kind of a message it is sending to a hurting world. If the message isn’t a message of love for people – I’m sorry but we’re missing the point.
That’s my two cents for the day!
I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
