So why does it sometimes seem like He holds information that we really need right NOW?
When the first Star Trek (well, the first new one) came out a couple years ago, I have to admit my husband and boys were excited about watching it and I was…well, not. But, I was pleasantly surprised and it ended up being one of my favorites movies of the year!
Yesterday was the DVD release of the newest Star Trek and this time I WAS excited and again, I loved the movie.
So what the heck does Start Trek have to do with anything, Daveda? Stay with me here, I do a have a GREAT point to make!
I felt the Lord sharing some insight with me during this movie, as I believe God uses ALL things and can speak to us in so many ways. I don’t want to spoil anything and I don’t think this will, but be fore warned I am going to share just a snippet here from the movie.
There is part where Spock makes contact with his much older self from the future, hoping to get information that will help him make a decision for the present. I sat there thinking wouldn’t that be AWESOME to be able to call the much older you and say “Hey, what happens with this or what should I do? Should I keep moving forward, should I shift gears, should I take that job, should I marry that man/woman, should I move, how should I parent etc…”
We would have an endless supply of questions for ourselves wouldn’t we? But part of Spock’s response to himself was something to the effect of – You know Spock I’ve vowed to never give you information that would alter your journey and the experience you yourself would have…Huh…That’s not word for word but you get the gist of it.
If we had the answers we seek without going through the experiences that take us from place to place, how would that alter our journey? A part of me just thinks “Come on God just give me the answers! I don’t know what to do here!” The other part of me understands the value and the depth that comes from building relationship with Him and simply learning to trust God, even when we can’t see what’s ahead.
God cares more about who we are and who we are growing into then He does about us knowing it all or having all the answers TODAY! If we NEEDED to know the answer today, I am sure He would supply it. The truth is we don’t NEED to know, we WANT to know because we are impatient and many times forget the value of the lessons we learn on the journey. Knowing the answers too soon would as Spock said, alter that journey and what it can teach us, affecting who we grow into along the way.
I have a few questions I would like answers to RIGHT NOW…but, I have to trust God knows and as long as He knows and I’m following Him, I guess I’ll be okay. So will you 😉 Keep following Him and trusting that He loves you, He has a plan for you and He IS taking you somewhere.
I would LOVE to know how this post impacted you and what you think of it! Leave a comment and let me know.
